West End Cliffs vs Seven Mile Beach: Who Should Stay at The Cliff
Negril is often sold as one long stretch of sand. It isn’t. One side of town is Seven Mile Beach: soft sand, beach bars, and the classic Jamaica postcard. The other is the West End cliffs: limestone ledges, turquoise water below your feet, and sunsets that stop conversation.
Both are Negril. They are not interchangeable. Choosing well is the difference between the trip you imagined and the one you keep explaining to friends.
Two Negrils, one island
Seven Mile Beach is Negril’s famous golden shoreline. It’s where most visitors picture themselves: beach chairs, water sports, music spilling from beach restaurants, and resorts lined up along the sand. It’s lively, accessible, and built for a classic beach holiday.
The West End cliffs sit at the far end of West End Road, high above the Caribbean. There is no sandy beach on the property. Instead: ocean ladders carved into the rock, clifftop pools, snorkeling below, and evenings at the edge of the world. This is quieter Negril — the side locals and return guests often prefer when they want beauty without the beach-crowd rhythm.

Choose the West End The Cliff Hotel if…
You want quiet luxury more than a beach chair lineup. You’d rather watch the sun drop into the Caribbean sea from a cliff-edge lounge than fight for a good spot on packed sand. You’re drawn to luxury on your own pace, snorkeling from the property, open-air spa treatments, and dinners above the water . You’re planning a honeymoon, anniversary, or an intimate cliffside ceremony not a 200-guest all-inclusive wedding. You like knowing the staff will learn your name, and that low season or a quiet weekend might mean having the pools nearly to yourself.

Choose Seven Mile Beach if…
You need soft sand underfoot every morning. Kids (or you) want easy beach entry and all-day water toys. You’re happiest when restaurants, music, and other travelers are right on the shore. You’re fine with a busier, more classic resort energy.
That’s a great Negril trip. It just isn’t what The Cliff Hotelis built for...and we’d rather tell you that up front.
“But there’s no beach…”
True however and worth saying clearly. At The Cliff Hotel you swim in the ocean or in our infinity-style pools. you will love our natural saltwater ocean edge pool (yes small fish are apart of experiance), and in the Caribbean sea reached by a short jump or hand-carved cliff ladders into the Carribean sea. There is no sandy beach on site.
Seven Mile Beach is about a 15-minute taxi from the hotel (often around $20 each way; the front desk can arrange it). Many guests spend most days on the cliffs and take one or two beach afternoons. Others never leave West End and don’t miss the sand. Walking West End Road is not recommended it’s winding, busy, and without sidewalks. Use a taxi or hotel transfer for the beach and for nearby restaurants.
Getting here (and why the drive is worth it)
The Cliff is roughly 1 hour 45 minutes from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. That transfer is the reason some travelers skip Negril for hotels closer to the airport. Guests who make the trip usually say the same thing: the cliff hotel is the point. Private transfers arranged through the hotel are the easiest path from plane to pool. Rick’s Café and other West End spots (Ivan’s, Murphy’s) are a short taxi ride from the hotel. Walking West End Road is not recommended — it’s busy and lacks sidewalks.
Is The Cliff Hotel all-inclusive?

When is the best time to stay at The Cliff Negril?
Peak season is roughly December through April. Shoulder months like April and November are strong for value and weather. May through October is softer for Negril demand (September–October often quietest), which can mean better rates and a more private feel on the cliffs.
Why stay on the West End cliff Hotel instead of a Seven Mile Beach hotel?
Stay at the cliff hotel for stillness, sunset views, ocean-from-the-rock swimming, and boutique luxury service. Stay on Seven Mile if soft sand every day is non-negotiable. Many guests base at The Cliff and visit the beach once or twice.
Are the cliffs safe for swimming and cliff jumping?
