December 4–6, 2026 | The Cliff Hotel & Spa, Negril, Jamaica
This coming December, the cliffs Hotel Negril turns into the epicenter of Jamaican culinary culture. The Jamaica Jerk Championship brings the island's best pitmasters to The Cliff Hotel & Spa for three days of competition, celebration, and world-class hospitality set against one of the Caribbean's most photographed sunset views. If you're planning a luxury Jamaica vacation, a foodie getaway, or a bucket-list Caribbean event, this is the one to put on the calendar.
What Is the Jamaica Jerk Championship?
Unlike a typical food festival, the Jamaica Jerk Championship is a judged culinary competition built to formally define what world-class Jamaican jerk cookery looks like evaluated on the very soil where jerk was born. The event honors a cooking tradition rooted in Maroon history, pimento wood fire, and generations of technique, and puts it in front of a panel of internationally recognized chefs for a national title. Meet the Judges
The championship is judged by a panel of chefs whose combined résumé includes multiple James Beard Awards, Michelin recognition, and some of the most respected names in American and Caribbean cooking:
- Chef Rodney Scott — One of the most celebrated pitmasters in American history and only the second pitmaster ever to win a James Beard Award (Best Chef Southeast, 2018). Featured on Netflix's Chef's Table: BBQ and a longtime judge on Food Network's BBQ Brawl, with restaurants spanning Charleston, Birmingham, Atlanta, and Nashville.

She's a James Beard nominee and one of the leading voices in Jamaican and Caribbean cuisine today.
- Chef Dae Kim — Trained at three-Michelin-starred Per Se before opening Nōksu in New York City, which earned a Michelin star in its first year, making him the youngest chef in NYC history to do so.
Rounding out the weekend is Adrian Miller, serving as Cultural Correspondent and Master of Ceremonies. A Stanford and Georgetown Law graduate, former White House official under President Clinton, and two-time James Beard Award-winning author (Soul Food and Black Smoke), Miller brings historical depth and storytelling to every moment on stage.
Fun Facts About the Championship
- It's judged, not just tasted. The event is built as a formal competition with real culinary standards not a casual cook-off designed to set the definitive benchmark for jerk excellence.
- Jerk's roots run deep. The cooking method traces back to Jamaica's Maroon communities, who developed it out of necessity using pimento wood, slow fire, and careful seasoning to preserve and cook meat under difficult conditions.
- A five-chef, multi-Michelin, multi-James-Beard panel. It's rare to find this concentration of award-winning culinary talent judging a single regional dish anywhere in the world.
- It happens on a clifftop. The Cliff Hotel & Spa sits on five acres above the Caribbean Sea in Negril's West End meaning judging happens with a live ocean and sunset backdrop.
- It's intentionally intimate. Organizers Luxury Event Studios have kept the event scaled small on purpose, keeping the focus on the cooking and the culture rather than festival-sized crowds.
